Malanzan und Olta Districts
(58.664 Ha), La Rioja
Olta (44,552 hectares) and Malanzan (14,112 hectares) District in La Rioja. Known uranium deposits, marked in red, are within the channel or in the basement rocks close to the unconformity with the overlying Carboniferous-Permian continental sedimentary rocks. This paleochannel is similar to the one in Figure 5.
The Malanzan and Olta District consists of seven concessions totaling 58,664 hectares. There are several small areas of pre-existing concessions that are excluded from these concessions.
Olta 3 concession includes a conglomerate with 1,600 ppm uranium that occurs about 50 meters above an unconformity with underlying schist, gneiss and granitic rock.
The Malanzan and Olta concessions cover a major paleochannel, defined by geological mapping and aeromagnetic surveys, in Carboniferous – Permian sandstones and conglomerates. Note that uranium deposits are known along this paleochannel, as well as in the surrounding metamorphic rocks immediately below the unconformity. Targeted deposit types are: roll front, humic and unconformity.
